A number of workshops on dyscalculia were recently held at the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology.

Dyscalculia is the difficulty in learning or understanding arithmetic, such as problems in understanding numbers, learning how to manipulate them and learning facts in mathematics.

Forty-four specialist tutors attended the workhops, which were conducted over a period of two days by Dr Giannis Karagiannakis from the University of Athens.

Dr Karagiannakis shared innovative and effective practices and resources that may be used to teach maths when working with students with dyscalculia.

The workshops were held in collaboration with the Education Ministry’s Directorate for Quality and Standards in Education, the University of Malta’s Department of Counselling and the Malta Dyslexia Association.
