Humanity’s struggle for existence and supremacy, together with man’s urge ‘to see’, is the unifying theme behind Wood Love Some Space, a solo exhibition by artist Mario Abela. In the words of the artist, the works in this collection can be envisioned as a return to the primeval search for meaning, for his relationship with the forces of nature.

While aware that there is no one answer to the questions that inspire his works, the artist is on a journey to understand. The works are dominated by the colour black, which the artist achieves as a result of the use of carbon.

“My fascination with cosmology makes recourse to black logical. In the cosmos, the mysterious dark matter and dark energy constitute the largest proportion of the total mass of the universe. This massive blackness is reflected in these drawings,” the artist said.

The exhibition runs until January 2 at the Art..e Gallery, Victoria.
