A worker repairing a hotel lift suffered serious injuries when he got wedged between the elevator and the doorway yesterday.
The accident happened at about 9.30am in St Julian’s when the 34-year-worker from Birkirkara noticed that the elevator door was jammed half open on the sixth floor, the police said. The worker was standing partly inside the shaft when the elevator descended, crushing him.
A colleague who realised what happened ran up to the seventh floor and pressed the call button to move the lift away from his friend, sources said.
An ambulance was called on site and the worker was taken to Mater Dei Hospital, where he was certified to be in a critical condition.
