I write following comments such as those that appeared on the front page under the title Victims’ Anger at Prisoner Amnesty (June 7).

They were excellent ideas those presented by former European Human Rights Court judge Giovanni Bonello and given to readers in the previous day’s issue under the title Bonello Commission To Target Judicial Reform.

Yes, this country’s judicial system badly needs a serious reform. Obviously, it must be a true and real reform. One that looks up to nobody, not even ministers.

People are not that blind as not to see that some politicians are abusing the position they occupy and the power connected with it.

Nor do I see any difference between colours of politicians, whether we are speaking about today’s or yesterday’s lords.

As we all know, various Roman Pontiffs have, for the past 50 years, shown too often their worries in this field, making various Christian suggestions to those in power. Would that our politicians present them a listening ear!

I write keeping before my eyes the unfortunately too many condemnable cases history has presented to us in these islands of ours. And, although presumably proud of being Christians, we go on and on and on!

Yes, the adage teaches us that power blinds men.

I am pretty sure the former European Court judge will give us something worthy of a Christian name. And, no less, of a proud teaching place in history!

How correct, too, and worthy of a sincere ‘thank you’ was the Speaker of the House, Anġlu Farrugia, when he noted that it was time for Parliament to establish an ethics committee for members. Such a committee, obviously working with honesty, should have appeared many years ago. It is also the duty of us priests to preach and teach clearly on these issues.
