Ivan Woods is on the verge of rejoining Sliema after the experienced forward called time on his two-year spell with Floriana.

Woods’s exit from Floriana had been anticipated but the 35-year-old had agreed to delay his departure after heeding the troubled club’s call to oversee the team’s preparations for their Europa League commitments against IF Elfsborg, of Sweden.

The Greens’ elimination from the Europa League, following a humiliating 12-0 aggregate defeat, cleared the way for Woods to seek pastures new with Sliema long mooted as favourites to re-sign their former stalwart.

After depositing his release documents at the MFA yesterday, Woods is today expected to sign a two-year deal with Sliema.

Obinna Obiefule is set to sign for ES Setif after the Nigerian striker agreed personal terms with the Algerian club.

Obiefule was expected to secure a move outside Maltese football after his scoring feats last season brought him to the attention of foreign clubs.

The 24-year-old, who set a new Premier League scoring record last season after hitting 34 goals, had another year remaining on his contract with Mosta but the Blues have agreed to transfer Obiefule to ES Setif for an undisclosed fee.
