A 27-year-old woman was struck by lightning in Fgura yesterday and sustained hand injuries.

Police said the woman, who lives in Triq il-Ward tax-Xemx, was lowering a canopy in a yard at the time. She was kept in hospital for observation. The incident happened at around noon when a loud lightning bolt was heard across Malta.

The police said there were no other reports related to the thunderstorm.

The skies clouded for only a couple of hours but people reported electricity faults in several localities and a timesofmalta.com reader said his daughter had her TV and computer destroyed in Valletta during the storm.

With just a few hours to go before the Good Friday processions, many thought the yearly event would be put off, but the sunshine returned in the afternoon.
