I do not often agree with Joe Muscat but this time I think he is wise to leave the options open.

I have personally experienced the relief of being able to have an abortion (in Denmark). It turned out I was carrying a cancerous blob and if the ‘pregnancy’ had continued it could have killed me. There would never have been a child.

If one’s wife, daughter, sister was raped, how would one react and feel about bringing up a rapist’s child? How would one’s wife, daughter, sister feel about carrying and then bringing up a rapist’s child?

An abortion would be of a foetus, the size and appearance of a small bean, if the woman did not take a morning-after pill as soon as possible. Or is that considered murder by the likes of George Vella too?

The abortion debate is very emotionally charged. I believe the woman’s health, circumstances and sanity comes first. Circumstances are not always black and white and, legally, options should allow primarily for the woman’s health and safety. She is, after all, here and now. Anything else is supposition.
