A 21-year-old man was yesterday charged with harassing his cousin after he became obsessed with the fact his ex-girlfriend had moved in with her, a court heard.

The man allegedly turned up at the house that the couple now share and, during an argument, threatened to kill his cousin, the court heard.

It was during the argument that, at one point, a knife fell out of the man’s pocket, Police Inspector Jason Sultana said.

Moreover, during a police search, a shotgun was found in his car, Mr Sultana said, pointing out that the accused had also threatened to shoot his for-mer partner.

The officer said the man’s former partner had left him for his female cousin, something he became obsessed with.

“This is a very serious matter”, Mr Sultana said, arguing that he would not oppose bail being granted if a personal deposit was imposed and a protection order issued.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti considered that the accused was unemployed and unable to afford any deposit before remanding him in custody.
