A woman with “social problems” yesterday admitted to stealing a mobile phone and cash from a beach.

Marouska Borg, 34, of Marsa, admitted to stealing a Blackberry phone worth €385 and €150 in cash from a couple on Sunday at the Sirens water polo pitch in St Paul’s Bay.

During the arraignment yesterday, Police Inspector Edmond Cuschieri told the court that Ms Borg had social problems and that putting her on probation would be the best thing for her.

Defence lawyer Adrian Camilleri agreed with the inspector’s suggestion and Magistrate Gabriella Vella placed her on probation for one year.
