Two pianists and a violinist won the first three places in the annual Bice Mizzi Vassallo music competition.

Organised by the National Council of Women, the competition saw 18 musicians compete, the largest number ever. This was the first time the competition was open a year in advance with a very wide choice of set pieces.

The winners were: first prize: pianist Maria-Elena Farrugia; second prize, pianist Sarah Micallef; third prize, violinist Nadine Galea.

The Malta Arts Council is supporting the competition by sponsoring the first prize winner to attend a UK Lake District summer course in August, while the second and third winners have been awarded cash prizes. The MAF will also be supporting the prize winners’ concert next year.
