Charmaine Dalli, 20, currently following a postgraduate Master’s in Teaching and Learning, was awarded the Alistair David Robert Chalmers (ADRC) Bursary for placing first in her final 2015-2016 year, obtaining a first-class degree in Spanish and Latin American Studies.

In addition to following a course at the University of Salamanca last summer, she was able to deepen her knowledge of Spain and its people with visits to Seville and Barcelona.

The ADRC Trust was established in 2013 by members of the Chalmers family, in memory of their late son and brother Alistair, whose many interests included Hispanic studies with a particular focus on Latin America, where he travelled extensively and did voluntary work.

Present at the award ceremony were Ms Dalli and her mother Marthese; Prof. Dominic Fenech, Dean of the Faculty of Arts; Anita Zerafa, Alessia Cilia Portelli; Prof. Carmel Vassallo of the Department of Spanish and Latin American Studies; and three generations of the Chalmers family, Roderick and Mary Rose Chalmers, their daughter Amanda Kaye, and her young daughter Francesca.
