... And now ladies and gentlemen we arrive at the hilltop village of Naxxar. You will immediately notice on your right this historical windmill. The most interesting question we have here is whether the scaffolding is in fact older than the building itself. No date has yet been fixed for the completion of the renovation as by that time, the building will most probably have collapsed!

Seriously now, this windmill is known Tal-Għaqba (meaning high ground) and was built by the Fondazione Perellos in 1710. It was last used as a windmill in 1910 after which it was used solely as a residence.

I also understand that this windmill is publicly owned and leased to a third party. Why it should take ages for historical places like this to be properly restored and protected escapes me.

In addition, the area close to the windmill is a shambles. It seems that we do not have our priorities right. We spend millions of euro on projects and buildings, some of which we do not need, but we totally neglect structures and locations like this.
