I refer to the letter Belated Phone Directory (June 4). The Malta Communications Authority would like to make a number of clarifications to avoid any misunderstandings.

With respect to the printed telephone directory, the authority is at the stage of determining the designated company responsible for publishing the telephone directory from the pool of applicants that expressed their interest.

With respect to the issue of technicalities, given that, today, there are a number of telephony service providers operating in the local market, the new telephone directory would need to include subscriber data collated from all these service providers, as against one service provider, as was the case in the past.

This renders this exercise significantly more complex than that undertaken for previous editions.
