I followed the exchange of views of the political parties and of opinion makers on the choice of the next President of Malta.
There appeared to be no strong convergence of views on any one candidate, although several people appeared to have the right qualifications.
The incumbent has enjoyed the goodwill of both parties, is still young and has been a great success with everybody.
Unless there are some sort of constitutional impediments, I think we could have done worse than offer President George Abela a second term in office.
Italy did just that with Giorgio Napolitano and, in the USA, presidents often run for a second term.
