I fully support Marie Borg (The Sunday Times, May 22) in calling for a protest against the moving of the Tritons fountain.
We are spending thousands of euros on the installation of water features in Valletta and Sliema, and now propose to spend millions on the removal of the fountain.
Most large open spaces in Italy, France and the rest of Europe have fountains as an attraction.
The Tritons would be our showpiece in the new pedestrian square.
I can foresee millions being squandered on moving it, and in 10 or 20 years some bright spark of a minister coming up with the suggestion of adding a fountain to the square, at the cost of more millions.
