We stay-at-home mothers have given up the best years of our life to take care of our children, husband/partner and the house. We are maids, cooks, doctors, nurses, you name it. We work around the clock, seven days a week. Most of the time we even forget we are human, we just exist.

We never stop to think that as the years roll by and we get older we might end up in poverty, not to mention the fact that we are not even entitled to a pension. With two children still at school and at 62 I have found myself in poverty.

I am just a mother who was forced to give up my career to take care of the family. At this moment in time I really feel sorry that I was born in Malta. I have always felt that this island deprives women of their dignity. Now I feel it more than ever.
