Janet Vella started practising the physical aspect of yoga nine years ago after suffering a traumatic pelvic injury which threatened to end her dance career. This happened during the birth of her son and one evening she experienced in more physical trauma than she had ever done in her 20 years of training.

Her solid foundation in dance and thorough research of yoga techniques helped her to restructure and rebuild her body, get back on her feet and most importantly, back on stage.

Vella went from barely being able to walk to dancing, teaching and ultimately, performing.

The fusion of yoga and dance she now practises came about as a natural progression of her strong passion to train people in the most effective way towards strength, flexibility and postural alignment.

For nine months she could hardly walk unaided... she understands what it’s like to be stiff, injured and immobile, despite being naturally hyper-mobile.

This experience is something she now feels the need to share to pass on what she has learnt to help others recover and mend their broken bodies.

Whether she is teaching an intensive dance, a fitness course or an injury rehabilitation programme, yoga is always there to sustain, heal and rebuild. This trans-disciplinary approach is a safe and unique blend that has rehabilitated and saved many athletes and performers.

Vella recently launched this yoga-meets-dance practice through the Fitness Sunday Challenge, a programme of 12 weeks of three-hour Sunday sessions which start next Sunday at 10am.

The Fitness Sunday Challenge programme includes an hour of total core (a specialised dynamic workout targeting people’s inner corset and all other problem areas), an hour of Dance Yourself Gorgeous (a recipe of dance- inspired moves fused with deep conditioning), and finishing off with Powerhouse Yoga (another practice revolving around the core, coupled with a fiery vinyasa sequence of warrior poses).
