Many environmentalists, I am sure, hoped for a change of government in the hope that a new one would be against further development in Outside Development Zones, against high-rise buildings, against illegal boathouses, against the rebuilding of illegal structures in the countryside and against mega projects that change the aesthetics of our landscape and coastal environment.

The Government has to understand that environmentalists have as much a vote as contractors and illegal boat house owners. Fortunately, environmentalists are increasing in number as more people are realising that our islands have reached a point where open spaces are being threatened by development and our coast and seas are being eaten away once and for all.
