Stanley J. Clews (August 7) simply repeats the spin put on Dom Mintoff’s words by the Nationalist media and its allies.

I was there on the occasion he mentions and I can recall Mr Mintoff’s words to the Dockyard workers very clearly.

Mr Clews tries to spice up his letter with a final fabrication. Yes, there were some (a very small number) who booed and left. Nobody, I repeat, nobody, was manhandled or “beaten up”.

Instead of repeating malicious spin and fabricating falsehoods, Mr Clews should tell us what he thinks of a man of such integrity and moral courage who faced the very people who had just put

him into power and told them a very unpleasant but necessary home truth vital for safeguarding their livelihood.
