What does peace in Europe mean to you? That is the question children and young people are invited to answer today by drawing a picture or writing a short text to take part in a contest being organised in connection with this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, due to be awarded to the EU next month.

The competition winners will be offered the opportunity to attend the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo, Norway, as part of the official EU delegation that will travel to Oslo to receive the prize.

Children aged eight to 12 are to answer the question by means of a drawing while young people aged 13 to 24 are to write a short text of not more 120 characters in English, Maltese or any of the other EU official languages. A jury will choose three winners from three age groups (eight to 12, 13 to17, and 18 to 24), while a fourth winner will be chosen from the 16 best entries from the three age groups, which will be posted on Facebook for a vote by the public.

The names of the winners will be announced during the week starting December 3.

The contest, being organised by European Parliament office in Valletta in partnership with the European Youth Forum, is open until midnight today. To submit entries, visit www.peaceuropefuture.eu.
