Minister George Pullicino deserves a big pat on the back for turning the face of Malta into much needed open spaces for us and for our children and embellishing the various towns and villages, besides other fruitful commitments.

The latest project which San Ġwann has been clamouring for all these years for the sake of the many families with young children has just been announced and welcomed by one and all. The so-called playing field here has been nothing but a miserable little area almost completely neglected with broken wooden horses, rusty swings and little else.

Now it’s going to be revamped in a €1 million government project that will transform the area completely and also include a modern garden with fountains and a civic centre. This will certainly also enhance the village core opposite the parish church which has been lacking improvement.

The local authorities must watch out for some young misfits who for years have been vandalising the play area and toilets late in the evenings. The police station nearby should prove a deterrent to such anti-social behaviour.
