The Malta Weightlifting National Championships for men and women will take place at the Cottonera Sport Complex on Sunday, starting at 10am.

The first categories competing at the Nationals will be for Cadets, followed by youths and juniors categories.

The third session will be for women in different categories while the last session of the day is reserved for the Open men’s competition.

These championships have particular importance attached to them this year as they are the first step for Malta selections ahead of the upcoming international competitions in the beginning of next year – the European Small Nations tournament in Cyprus and the Med. Cup in Spain.

Meanwhile, it was also confirmed that later this month Jesmond Caruana, president of the Malta Weightlifting Association, will leave for Houston, USA, to fulfil his duties as technical official in the World Championships between No-vember 20 and 28.

The World Championships will be the last chance for several lifters to earn qualification to next year’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
