Italy coach Cesare Prandelli was satisfied with Friday’s 1-0 away win over the Faroe Islands but believes the Azzurri have a lot of room for improvement.

Antonio Cassano’s solitary goal was the difference between the two sides in Torshavn.

The win was Italy’s sixth in qualifying and kept Prandelli’s side unbeaten in Group C.

“It’s a good result for us but it’s not done yet,” he said. “We are one step away but have not yet qualified.”

Prandelli had demanded his players focus ahead of this game with most of them lacking match practice and his cause for concern was evident with Italy failing to create much.

“Everyone expected an easy game against the Faroe Islands but it wasn’t,” Prandelli said.

“We managed to put some good moves together early on but we didn’t create many goalscoring chances.

“With the supremacy we had in midfield, we should have created more opportunities to score.”

Italy captain Gianluigi Buffon was relieved to take home three points after the Faroe Islands were twice denied by the post.

“The only good thing to take from this game are the three points,” Buffon said. “We have taken a step forward in qualifying.

“We played beautiful football in the opening 10 minutes but after we went ahead, we suffered a drop in form.

“We struggled at the end.”

The Azzurri host Slovenia on Tuesday knowing a victory will secure them a place in Euro 2012.

Slovenia lost 2-1 at home to Estonia and lie second in the group, eight points behind Italy with three games remaining.
