Government has accepted a donation of €560,000 from General Soft Drinks Co Ltd, representatives of Coca-Cola in Malta, on behalf of the Coca-Cola Foundation. These funds are to be used on a water project in so-called Eco Gozo.

Isn’t it ironic that a multinational company that is currently extracting free fresh water from boreholes in Qormi is now also giving money to Gozo to save water?

During the presentation of this donation, Resources and Rural Affairs Minister George Pullicino said water was an invaluable resource which we have to protect.

Well said, Mr Pullicino, we all know this, but what is the use of rhetoric when General Soft Drinks is extracting millions of litres every year for free from the Maltese water table?

Also regrettable is the involvement of Nature Trust in this project.
