Environment Minister Leo Brincat has inaugurated the Wasteserv Academy, aimed at offering opportunities to its staff to undertake training with local and internationally accredited institutions.

Wasteserv is responsible for handling the country’s waste management.

A call will be issued in February for training in health and safety measures, the minister said, adding that selected applicants would be able to do their duties more effectively.

Wasteserv chairman David Borg and CEO Tonio Montebello reiterated the company’s commitment to improve operational processes and efficiency. The training academy was intended to help the company achieve such aims, they said.

Meanwhile, Wasteserv staff members in Malta have been vaccinated against any possible risks associated with their work. Those in Gozo will be vaccinated next month.
