The Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises – GRTU is insisting that it represents the vast majority of gas distributors.

The chamber said a group of distributors was trying to cast doubts over this and it reserved the right to sue for damages.

The chamber was reacting to lawyer Robert Abela’s claim that the GRTU was misleading the public into believing it was the sole representative of gas distributors. The Malta Resources Authority, he said, had officially recognised his exclusive representation of a group of about six distributors.

The authority is proposing to retain the door-to-door gas distribution system based on territorial exclusivity, following the Government’s declaration that this was a service of general economic interest under the Competition Act.
