This October was warmer, brighter and wetter when compared to other years.

The average air temperature was 22.2°C and the minimum 18.7°C, that is 0.7°C above the average for October, the airport’s Met Office said.

Sea temperature stood at 25°C, considerably warmer than the normal October temperature of 23.5°C.

A mix of light and variable winds, lasting a total of 113 hours, engulfed the Maltese islands last week. The most frequent wind direction was west northwest, with a mean speed of 6.2 knots. The strongest gust – 37 knots from the southwest – was recorded on October 5.

Total rainfall amounted to 82.4 mm, above the average 75.6 mm.

Thunder was recorded on six days last month.

At 75 per cent, relative humidity was four per cent down on the same month last year. No hail was reported and only one day of fog was recorded. The warmest day was October 18 when the mercury rose to 30.7°C and the coolest was October 29, at 13.5°C.
