Unable to trace his former girlfriend who owed him €27,000, a local warden reacted by issuing a large number of parking tickets against her, a police officer said in court yesterday.

Oswald Lanzon, 42, of Birżebbuġa, was caught last week when he issued a ticket for an offence that supposedly occurred in Marsascala when she happened to be in Gozo, Police Inspector Frankie Sammut told Magistrate Neville Camilleri.

Mr Lanzon denied fabricating a crime, issuing tickets when no offence had been committed, harassing the woman and committing a crime he was in duty bound to prevent.

Magistrate Camilleri granted him bail against a personal guarantee of €5,000 and a deposit of €500. He also ordered Mr Lanzon not to approach the town where the woman lives.
