Malta’s singing doctor Gianluca Bezzina will be leading a fundraising walk today at 10am, organised by the Calamatta Cuschieri Cancer Foundation.

Alan Cuschieri, a director at Calamatta Cuschieri, one of the main catalysts behind the foundation’s launch, said: “Malta is still mourning the loss of Nirvana Azzopardi, Helen Muscat and many others. However, mourning our loved ones is not enough. As scientific progress is made and cancer treatment continues to improve, we must ensure everyone with cancer has access to these important advances.”

The foundation, with the support of the Health Department, is working to collect funds for the provision of cancer treatment and facilities and aiming to promote healthy living through activities that bring people together.

“Calamatta Cuschieri has always been at the forefront of social corporate responsibility inititatives, but this time it’s about focusing on one area and really trying to make a difference. We hope to make a difference,” Mr Cuschieri said.

Gianluca said it was a pleasure to be able to use his music for such positive initiatives, especially in the health sector, which is so close to my heart,” he said.

The walk, which starts from the Sliema Chalet, will continue along the promenade to the Love sign in St Julian’s and back to the Chalet.

Trainer Richard Geres will provide a warm-up to the event, while Gianluca and his band will close off the walk with a performance.

Donations will be collected on the day. Participants can donate €10 to the foundation in return for a T-shirt commemorating the event. Visit www.cc.com.mt, call 2568 8688 or look up the event on www.facebook.com/calamattacuschieri for more information.
