Reflecting the artist’s observations and impressions of life and nature, Anthony Lucian Cauchi’s latest exhibition of sculptures, Fire Inside, explores emo-tions experienced through the ambiguity of life.

Cauchi’s sculptures reflect the whole gamut of emotions, from the diversity and contrasts of nature (Lady Peacock) to the love between a mother and her children ( Bird’s Nest), the love and lust arising between two lovers (The Kiss), the bond between man and divinity (Modern Mosque), war and violence (Roman Cap, Samson and the Lion), our addiction to speed (The Messenger) and the ambiguity of evil (Dark Angel).

Cauchi studied art at the Government School of Art, St Joseph Technical (Ceramic) School, Mcast Ceramic School and the Academy Pietro Vannucci in Perugia, Italy. He has had various solo exhibitions, including at the Archaeological Museum, the Mediterranean Conference Centre, the National Museum of Fine Art and a number of foreign countries, including London, Helsinki and Perugia.

In 1984, the artist won a bronze medal at the International Postal Union Art Competition in Lugano, Switzerland. In 1986, he won another bronze medal for the same competition in Rome, Italy. A Retrospective Art Exhibition is in the works for 2014.

Fire Inside runs at the Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce, De la Salle Palace, Republic Street, Valletta, until April 30.
