A series of visits the police paid to a Paceville gentleman’s club three weeks ago were nothing out of the ordinary and fell within routine inspection parameters, police said yesterday.

I have all my employees as witnesses

Ronnie Axisa, who owns gentleman’s club Stiletto, had some weeks ago complained that he was being unfairly targeted by police, who had showed up at his club three times in four days.

Police have now given their side of the story. A first inspection by vice squad officers on Monday, November 5, revealed some missing papers.

“Other vice squad members went to collect them the following day,” a police statement said, noting that “no inspection was carried out on that day”.

Following the second visit to collect the missing papers, officers went on to inspect a rival gentleman’s club, the police said.

Mr Axisa vehemently denies this and yesterday insisted officers had performed a full inspection that Tuesday. “I have all my employees as witnesses,” he said.

Police said they again visited Mr Axisa’s club that Thursday, and carried out an inspection.

“It is to be noted that only two inspections were carried out in Mr Axisa’s establishment,” the police said, adding it was standard for each club to be inspected approximately twice a month.

Mr Axisa had said that just a few days prior to the police inspections, a woman looking for work at Stiletto had asked him if she also had to sleep with clients.

He had her ejected from the club and told The Times he suspected he was being set up by a rival club owner.

In their statement, the police said Mr Axisa had never mentioned the woman to them, “neither to the police officers who effected the inspection nor to the inspector in charge”.
