The village of Lower Slaughter in the UK may not sound like a destination for lovers, but one of its roads has been voted Britain’s most romantic street.
Cotswolds tourism manager Chris Dee added: “It’s true, the Cotswolds is for lovers! We know how many of our visitors use Street View; it’s an incredible resource for tourism.
“We are thrilled that this typical Cotswold street has been voted the essence of English romance by romantic Google users from around the world.”
Copse Hill Road in Gloucestershire took the prize in the Google Street View Awards.
Front Street in Bamburgh, Northumberland, and Edinburgh’s Royal Mile came second and third respectively in the vote for the most romantic street.
South Shore Road in Gateshead was voted the hippest street, while Bondgate Within in Alnwick won the award for the best shopping street to make it a double success for the northeast.
Calum Milne, who manages a hotel in the village of Lower Slaughter, said: “I am chuffed to bits. What a wonderful accolade for such a beautiful village.”
Over 20,000 people voted for the awards after the streets were shortlisted by a panel of experts.
