The autopsy on the Sudanese man who died after he was pushed to the ground in Paceville last Saturday revealed that he suffered severe brain bleeding and a fractured skull.

Osama Al Shzliaoy’s close friend Ruth Nicolson said the fracture came “probably from hitting something vertical such as the poles on the safety fence in the road”.

The 27-year-old Sudanese died on Tuesday evening after three days in intensive care when the life-support machine was switched off after he was declared brain dead.

Ms Nicolson said the police told her they had received evidence that was helping them piece together what happened on the night. “It seems that Osama had accidentally bumped into this man (believed to be of Romanian origin) while in the toilet of a nightclub and he later pushed him down when he saw him outside in the road – who would have thought that something so simple and innocent as nudging someone would lead to this,” she said.

The funeral details have not yet been finalised and it is still unclear whether he will be buried in Malta or Sudan. Loved by all those who knew him, Mr Shzliaoy’s touched the lives of many people.

Tomorrow morning, exactly one week after the incident, Mr Shzliaoy’s friends will hold a candle-lit vigil or “gathering of remembrance” in St George’s Road, Paceville outside Clique club at 6 a.m.

“So many people knew Osama and it will be nice to bring them together and meet up – he was loved by many and everyone should come,” Ms Nicolson said.
