Veteran trade unionist Michael Parnis has announced his decision to end his 35-year career with the General Workers’ Union.

In a letter to GWU general secretary Tony Zarb, Mr Parnis said he was privileged to have worked for the biggest union in Malta.

He joined the union in 1978 as a dockyard apprentice and gradually rose through the ranks, becoming deputy general secretary in 1999.
