Popular sports personality Colin Cauchi passed away yesterday, aged 71.

Cauchi was more known for his football commentaries on radio which started way back in the late 1960s but he was also involved in administration and journalism in his sports career.

In fact, he held the post of president of Malta’s Federazzjoni Klabbs tal-Boċċi and general secretary of the National Sports Board.

He was also vice-president of the Sportswriters Association and presided over the organising committee of the Sportsman of the Year contest for various editions.

In a statement, the Malta FA paid tribute to Cauchi who was des-cribed as ‘a person who gave a great contribution to the sport’.

“He was a true gentleman and one who showed great passion to the sport of football. Through his vast experience, he was able to give advice and assist his colleagues along the years,” the MFA said.
