The ASM Pasta Poiatti Moto-Trials Championship for the new season got underway last weekend.

Unlike other events at the racing circuit in Ta’ Qali, trials are not speed competitions as riders must overcome obstacles, applying all their skills while looking to avoid penalty points and performing ‘clean passes’.

An encouraging number of riders took part in Sunday’s two categories under the watchful eyes of ASM nursery coach John Bonello.

In Class A, veteran Robert Caruana, on a GasGas bike, completed a series of clean runs to grab the lead and finish ahead of champion Damon Bonello. The latter was beaten to second place by fellow Beta rider Nick Farrugia.

Jonathan Camilleri, also riding a GasGas bike, performed admirably in all the sections of the Class B race. He won his class with a comfortable advantage over runner-up Manuel Camilleri (Beta) and young Rowen Bonello (GasGas ).

Practical and technical trial lessons are held regularly at the ASM racing circuits on Saturday afternoons.
