Giuseppe Verdi’s four-act grand opera, Il Trovatore, is set to be staged in Gozo later this year.

As operas go, Il Trovatore has it all – a brave hero, a selfless heroine, an evil villain and, above all, four acts brimming with splendid music and some of the best-loved arias ever written by Verdi.

The opera will be staged at the Aurora, which had already premiered the production back in1979 under the direction of Joseph Sammut. More recently, in 1994, the same opera helped launched Colin Attard’s career in local opera. Attard was still a fresh face, but since then he has directed an opera at the Aurora every year, with the exception of one. This will be his 20th production.

Il Trovatore will be held at the Aurora, Victoria, on October 11. Tickets are available online or by calling on 2155 9452. Tickets cost €80, €70, €60 and €45, with a 10 per cent reduction for tickets purchased before May 31.
