Foreign Affairs Minister George Vella has condemned developments in Crimea and called for full respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine.

Speaking at an extraordinary meeting of EU Foreign Affairs Ministers in Brussels yesterday, he called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid any further provocative actions.

Dr Vella expressed Malta’s full support for further political dialogue and diplomacy to ensure observance of bilateral treaties between Russia and Ukraine.

With respect to the possibility of targeted measures against Russia, Dr Vella said no action should be taken that might escalate tensions.
