The Malta Air-Rifle and PistolShooting Club hosted a selection shoot at the Bidnija ranges last weekend ahead of the Commonwealth Shooting Federation Championships, to be held in September.

Alison Vella was simply superb in the air-rifle event. She secured the day’s honours and a ticket to Jersey with a personal best score of 548/600 points to finish ahead of Michael Xuereb, 532.

Newcomer to the sport, Hynalka Adam, continued to show progress by placing third after scoring 524 points while Annabel Borg had to settle for fourth on 502.

Another remarkable score was achieved by Eleanor Bezzina. She won the mixed air-pistol shoot and a place in the Common-wealth Championships with an excellent 373/400.

Ray Cacciattolo was second followed by Mario Mallia Milanes, Stephen Vassallo and Martin Grech in that order.

In Jersey, Vella and Bezzina will be joining other shooters from England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Gibraltar and Cyprus.
