Vehicle-activated signs (VAS) being installed on Malta’s roads are placed with a view to information about 100 metres from where the indicated speed becomes operative as a speed limit. Answering a parliamentary question by Nationalist MP Ċensu Galea specifically about the VAS recently installed between the two tunnels close to university, Transport Minister Austin Gatt said 85.8 per cent of passing vehicles had been recorded as exceeding the 40 mph speed limit.

The sign was placed about 100 metres before the speed limit point.
