An outstanding 10-year-old pianist, a 20-strong clarinet ensemble and a Spanish dance company will all feature in the Malta Cultural Institute concert at Hotel Le Meridien, Balluta Bay, St Julian’s, next Sunday at 7 p.m.

The evening’s programme opens with a piano recital by Laetitia Amodio, who started her piano studies at the age of five with her mother Charmaine.

A precocious student, she passed the first seven grades of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music with the highest distinction marks and is now preparing for her Grade 8 exam.

For the past three years, Amodio participated and excelled in several piano competitions, placing first in three international piano competitions abroad.

In Barletta, Italy, she was also awarded a special prize for Best Interpretation in Romantic Music.

The pianist will be followed by the Johann Strauss Clarinet Ensemble, directed by Godfrey Mifsud, who set it up in 2003 with Michael Pirotta.

This is made up of clarinet students attending the School of Music and this year it includes Jessica Ellul, Marita Cassar, Noel Curmi, Jeremy Mason, Ryan Magro, Neville Pace, Abigail Cortis, Henry Fenech, Christian Dimech, Mario Bugeja, Luca Vella, Pietrouska Mifsud, Joseph Xuereb, Michael Cutajar, Stephanie Gauci, Karl Camilleri, Christabel Bonello, Gabriel Agius, Ludwig Desira and Elsie Mifsud.

The last part of the evening will feature the Alegria Academia and Dance Company, whose performances are not limited to flamenco.

They are frequently invited to perform in theatre, gala performances, cabaret and festivals, television and film and have a prolific repertoire earning them an esteemed reputation in the arts.

The dancers individually tour abroad and study with leading masters of dance.

The concert is open to all, and entrance is free, but donations are welcome.
