Hamburg coach Bert van Marwijk has criticised his club’s decision to tour Indonesia during the winter break, although he understands the reason behind the trip.

The northern Germany side head to the other side of the globe today before jetting to Abu Dhabi for a mid-season training camp.

“It’s anything but optimal,” said the Dutch coach.

“But it’s part of the game really - clubs need to earn money.”

Hamburg can expect to draw in around €500,000 for spending just two days in Indonesia and playing one friendly match.
