I recently parked my car in the vicinity of Triq Marsamxett, Valletta and my friend and I tried to continue on our way to our destination on foot.

The stretch of the pavement from the gunpost to near the bus shelter is in a really bad state. It is so dangerous to use that we preferred to use the road, risking being hit by a car. A couple of people walking ahead of us heard me complain and one of them said that work on the pavement started some months ago but was left unfinished with holes increasing every day. I am informed that several complaints were made to the Valletta local council but they seemed to fall on deaf ears.

Besides the locals, the area is frequented daily by many tourists, who, like us Maltese, walk along the road to avoid ending up with a twisted ankle or a broken limb. Imagine the inconvenience for someone wheelchair-bound or pushing a buggy.

If the Valletta council is unable to meet the expenses of a new pavement, at least some sort of patching should be done to make the pavement decent enough for pedestrians to walk on. Some action will be most welcome. Our capital city deserves better.
