The Valletta Subbuteo Club has organised two international tournaments at The Magazino Cruise Port Terminal as part of the Valletta 450 activities.

An encouraging number of players participated with Derek Conti, of Valletta Subbuteo Club, winning the Open category in the International Open on Saturday. Conti beat Hansel Mallia 4-1 in the final.

The honours in the category for veterans went to Pascal Scheen, of Belgium. He beat Italian Patrizio Lazzaretti 1-0.

Melvin Barun was the winner of the U-19s, while 11-year-old Riccardo Natoli, of Italy, achieved a double after topping the U-12 and U-15 competitions.

The Grand Prix was played for the fifth consecutive year on Sunday.

Valletta Subbuteo Club secured the team title. The hosts topped their group after two wins over Messina TS (4-0) and Bormla SC (3-0). Valletta Lions TFC were up next for Valletta SC who won the derby 4-0 to book a place in the final.

In the other semi-final, Bormla SC edged SS Lazio TFC 7-5 on shots following a 2-2 draw in normal time.

The final was a one-sided affair as Valletta SC overcame Bormla SC 4-0.

Joseph Borg Bonaci captained the Valletta SC team with the other team members being Derek Conti, Samuel Bartolo, Mario Camilleri and Jason Pisani.

In the Grand Prix for singles, Mark Gauci won the major title after beating Massimo Cremona 3-2 extra-time.

The veteran category final was again contested by Scheen and Lazzaretti with the latter avenging his previous-day upset with a handsome 5-0 win.

Barun repeated his success in the Grand Prix U-19 tournament with Messina-based Natoli doing likewise in the U-12 and U-15 competitions.
