As many as a third of holidays never make it to the booking stage, according to a survey.
Finance and the inability to get enough time off work top the list of reasons for trips to be abandoned, the poll by travel agent Sunshine.co.uk found.
A total of 1,956 UK adults were asked about holidays they had planned in the last three years and whether they had actually been on them
On average, one in three planned trips never took place.
While the money situation and time off work were the biggest causes of holiday plans going awry, another major reason was indecision about destinations.
Some who never took trips also blamed disagreements with fellow travellers on where to stay, while others were put off by bad reviews of certain destinations.
