The VIAF baroque series continues today at St George’s Basilica, Victoria, with French prizewinners Le Jardin Musical and Vincent Beer-Demander in a concert of works for strings and mandolin by Geminiani, Vivaldi, Barbella, Paisiello and Cimarosa.

Le Jardin Musical is made up of Christine Antoine (violin/leader), Katia Lagresle (violin), Catherine Simon (viola), Olivier Destéphany (double bass) and Pierre Perdignon (harpsichord).

Tomorrow, Ramona Zammit will give a harpsichord recital of works by Byrd, Bach, Handel and more, while on Thursday, top London ensemble Musica Poetica (Chris Webb, bass; Kate Conway, viola da gamba; Oliver John Ruthven, harpsichord) will present a unique concert entitled That Stupendous Bass, which is an exploration of music written for or inspired by Reverend John Gostling, once described by British MP Samuel Pepys as “that stupendous bass”.

These baroque concerts, which start at 8pm, will be performed on period instruments.
