I am resident in the UK but have lived in Malta and used Air Malta flights, a great number of times, for the last eight years. As such, I accumulated thousands of Flypass miles with a view to making use of them in due course. It so happens that I contracted a serious illness and so was unable to leave the UK for a period of 18 months or so. Having made a full recovery, I resumed my visits this year, flying Air Malta.

The carrier advised me that, in accordance with their terms and conditions, my Flypass account had been closed and the accumulated air miles could not be redeemed!

Despite my telephone calls, e-mails and letters offering medical evidence, the company refuses to reinstate the air miles. The customer care services simply say that I can start a fresh Flypass account but I cannot claim for any Flypass miles previously accumulated.

What sort of advertisement is this for the ‘caring’ aspect of the Maltese national air carrier?
