I refer to Michael Briguglio’s article (September 18) and the notice (September 23) that retirement homes can add two extra floors because of the ever-increasing demand.
The housing project in Siġġiewi was rushed through without a social impact assessment, as suggested by Briguglio, or any meeting with the local council and residents.
Ever since the Siġġiewi project was proposed in 2006, the local council has always asked that its suggestion to build a retirement home and day-care facilities for the elderly be incorporated in the plans.
Once the government admits that the demand is so big, why does it not lead by example, listen to the local community and increase the number of units for the elderly?
