Manchester United were handed a trip to Chelsea in the League Cup fourth round draw, while holders Liverpool will host Swansea.
United discovered they will face the European champions in the last 16 at Stamford Bridge just minutes after clinching their place in the draw with a 2-1 win over Newcastle at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will take on his former club Swansea for the first time after the Reds defeated West Bromwich Albion 2-1 at the Hawthorns on Wednesday.
Rodgers left Swansea to take charge of the Reds in pre-season and, with Liverpool’s first Premier League meeting with the Welsh club not scheduled until November 25, the Swans’ League Cup visit to Anfield will be the first clash between the manager and his old team.
Arsenal travel to Premier League new boys Reading, while Tottenham also face top-flight opponents as they visit Norwich.
Leeds’ reward for their shock win over Everton on Tuesday is a home clash with Southampton, while Sunderland host Middlesbrough in a north-east derby.
The Draw
Sunderland vs Middlesbrough; Swindon vs Aston Villa; Wigan vs Bradford; Leeds vs Southampton; Norwich vs Tottenham; Liverpool vs Swansea; Chelsea vs Man. Utd; Reading vs Arsenal.
Ties to be played week commencing October 29
