A number of trade unions yesterday congratulated new Prime Minister Joseph Muscat.

They included the Union Ħaddiema Magħqudin and the Chamber for Small and Medium Enterprises – GRTU, both of which also thanked former Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi for his work.

The UĦM noted this had been a difficult legislature, during which Malta maintained economic growth.

The Forum Unions Maltin said the new government should focus on fighting precarious work, approving the Budget and lowering utility bills.

The Malta Dockers Union, the Confederation of Malta Trade Unions and the Malta Motorsport Federation also congratulated the new Prime Minister.

Congratulations were sent by student organisations Pulse and SDM, both expressing hope education would remain a top priority following the electoral campaign.
